The Typography Workshop is open to all the year groups on

Wednesday 24th Februrary from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

This will be run by Brian Whitehead and assisted by Vaughan Oliver.

Designing and creating your own typefaces for ultimate use in the computer.

Bring in all your typo projects and lets be creative and productive.

“Coming Together” Font Aid IV Posted by: sal

In response to the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the Society of Typographic Aficionados issued a call to action to the typographic and design communities to participate in Font Aid IV. The result is “Coming Together,” an OpenType font that contains more than 400 ampersand glyphs designed by participants from around the world that has just been released this week.

All proceeds from the sale of the $20 typeface go to Doctors Without Borders , in support of continuing relief efforts in Haiti. Veer is amongst the web sites distributing Coming Together. You can see the font, buy it  and read about it on the Veer blog

Most Beautiful Swiss Books
The Most Beautiful Swiss Books competition was established to promote and reward top-quality book design in Switzerland. Organised by the Federal Office of Culture http://www.bak.admin.ch/, the books are chosen by a jury of renowned experts from the fields of design, production and publishing. We are pleased to bring you this exhibition in conjunction with Hurtwood Fine Printing Consultants http://www.hurtwoodpress.com, and Birmingham City University http://www.bcu.ac.uk

The legendary creative Dave Trott, the man responsible for some of the most memorable ads of the last 30 years. His work has impacted the UK culture many times. Founder of GGT in 1980, BST in 1990 and now CST Advertising. Also the founder of D&AD Advertising Workshops, and author of every ad grad’s favourite book, “How to get your first job in advertising” Dave has a new book out. It’s called CREATIVE MISCHIEF. The Sunday Times says it’s “genius”.

The Workshop has been postponed because of the Ken Garland talk – we think It would be advisable to attend Ken’s talk on Wednesday 25th November.

He is a significant speaker giving a one off talk – InDesign can be taught on the following Wednesday 2nd December.

Michael Wolff, a co – founder of one of the world’s most iconic design companies – Wolff Olins – is recognized today as a leader in thinking on brands. He lectures in many countries including Brazil, Mexico, Singapore and the USA. He’s Patron of the Inclusive Design Challenge with the Helen Hamlyn Centre at the RCA (Royal College of Art), a member of the Government sponsored Design and Technology Alliance against crime, Chairman of the Legible London initiative with Transport for London and a visiting Professor at the University of the Arts in London and a Senior Fellow of the RCA He’s a former President of both the D&AD (Design and Art Directors Association) and CSD Chartered Society of Designers.

Michael now runs Michael Wolff & Company in London. Most recent clients are 3i, Mothercare and Ministry of Sound in the UK – Citibank and Citigroup in the US – and a new bank in Russia.

“I’ve never stuck to one view of what is good in design. My personal goals have always been: to help organizations to express themselves, in their own particular way, for the benefit of anyone with whom they’re involved. And do this in a way that brings value to everyone and to the world that we all share.”
